So today we finally woke up around 10 or 11 and had a light toasty breakfast before going back to our beds and desks to do homework and generally be lazy. At about noon, we decided we should go to the Asian Civilizations Museum instead of the Sentosa Flower Festival because it was raining. We tried to talk Shreyas into going, but he had homework. Instead, we hopped on our bikes and met him at Jurong Point for lunch. Nothing was open because of Chinese New Year, so I had some (quite delicious) KFC and Gabe had Subway. It was surprisingly good for both of us.
Then we took the MRT to Raffles Place, which is down by Clarke Quay and Marina Bay. The museum was free today, which was a nice bonus, and was interesting. It had a cool exhibit on a sunken ship from around 850 CE and an interesting room of textiles throughout the ages, mainly from India. Gabe and I had fun. It was really cool because most museums I've been in have been Western-Centralized, and this (obviously) was not.
Anyways, after we were there for several hours, we came back to Jurong Point, picked up dinner from our favorite bakery and went to get our bikes to ride home.
Except our bikes weren't there.
They had been stolen.
They were locked together to a bike rack on the exterior of the mall between a main entrance and the car park entrance. And they're gone. =[
We called the police to file a report and had dinner while we waited for them. Now, we've been to this bakery a few different times. I always get the sausage roll, which is pretty much a hot dog baked in a roll. It tastes like bacon and is simply delicious. My favorite thing they have is a garlic chicken sausage pizza, but they didn't have that today. So we got the sausage roll and a big slice of garlic toast (which was slightly sweet but delicious) and a curry chicken roll (a roll with curried chicken inside) and a flosss roll (yes, it has three s's). Now, we had been too afraid to try flosss yet, but we finally did, and Gabe liked it... at least more than I did. It's basically a lightly frosted roll with pork shavings on top. But the pork is the consistency of sawdust. And it's sweet. I thought it was worth trying but I wouldn't have finished it by myself.
The police finally came and were super nice. They took our report in the security room of the mall and we got to watch all the cameras while they were taking information. It's doubtful that we'll get our bikes back, but send good wishes our way. They're reviewing security tapes and maybe they'll be able to help.
The police were really nice and, when they figured out where we lived and that we were going to walk back, they offered us a ride. The police station is directly across the street from our hostel, and they had to go back there anyways. They drove a Toyota, which was really comfortable, with a nice, leather back seat and seat belts and everything, just like a normal car. I thought it was interesting that they work in pairs and since the driver's on the right hand side, it's really conducive to the computer being in the car.
In the States, most patrol cars have one person, and that person sits on the left and has a computer station in the middle of the car, to the right hand side of the police officer. This makes sense since most people are right handed and that would make it easier to take notes, type, whatever. In the cars here, the computer panel faces the passenger seat and is still on the right. It allows for one person to work the computer and do data comfortably while the other is driving. I thought it made a lot of sense.
Finally, we got back to the apartment and we did some work. I made some phone calls and then we looked at traveling for this weekend. Bangkok was super expensive so we're going to Jakarta. A lot of international students are going, so it should be fun. I booked the hostel and Gabe made the ticket reservations, so he'll have to blog about that ridiculousness. Something about seat charges.
Anyways, tomorrow we'll go to Sentosa and finish homework. Wednesday and Thursday we have school, and Thursday night we'll be in Indonesia.
Goodnight-lah.
